#ZON ALARM PRO PRO#
The only things I had installed were ZA Pro & Norton Antivirus, the ghost image already had all the MS updates (I don't get all MS updates either, only one's I feel I need, who needs root certificates anyway?īoth PC's are totally different hardware setups, I've had these problems with all ZA's versions since mid to late 2001(ran fine prior to that), several friends have had similar problems also.

I ghost my OS's prior to installing most software including ZA & went so far as to start from my ghost image several times on my 98SE & 2000 PC's & still ended up with same problem on both PC's. I was last using file version 3.5.166.000, tried numerous things to solve the resource problem it was giving me & it was ZA Pro causing the problem, when shutdown problems went away. There are other good firewalls, but I'm happy with ZA. IMHO, nothing worth paying for, as the basic firewall package is identical. Oh, you also get alternate color choices for it. A good stand-alone AV package is much better at that. You also get pop-up control, which you can get with freeware, and LIMITED virus monitoring. It also monitors everything on your computer that tries to connect out, and gives you the opportunity, either on a time-by-time basis, or setting permanent choices, what to allow out.ĪFAIK, the pro version gives you the ability to supposedly identify the sources of anything that pings your puter and sets off an alert, which is mostly a waste of time, since the vast majority ot things that ping your computer are benign. Works just fine, is easy and intuitive to configure, by default blocks EVERY port, so you're not visible at all to bad guys looking for targets. I'm using the free version of ZoneAlarm with XP Pro.
